There are 5 aspects to consider (in no particular order):1. Be reliable over the long term2. Efficient energy use (see CoP ratings)3. Great back up & warranty with a local company4. Simple to operate - whether through a remote or app5. Nice design - looks good on the wall
In keeping with this, we have our favourite brands (in order of price) Gree, Fujitsu, Mitsubishi Electric. They all are top of their respective price category. Dont be fooled by fancy marketing - we have installed many brands over the years and we have settled on these 3 as the best.
Please also note that Mitsubishi Heavy Industries is not he same company as Mitsubishi Electric. They split in 1940. We do not recommend Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
Reliability comes in two forms. Does it last, and does it do what you ask of it?The fact is just because you spend more money doesn't necessarily mean you are getting something more reliable. However, if you by the cheapest unit you can then yes you will have reliability issues. It is simply uneconomic to build a product to a high level at the lowest price. Think of buying a new car. Its the same principle. A Mazda might be as or more reliable than a Mercedes, however the cheapest brand cars are definitely not as reliable as either of those options.
When we talk about a heat pump’s CoP, we’re talking about its “Coefficient of Performance.” That’s just a fancy way of measuring how efficient the unit is. In plain terms, CoP tells you how much heat you get out for every unit of electricity you put in. For example, if a heat pump has a CoP of 4, it means for every $1 of electricity it uses, it gives you $4 worth of heating. The brands we do all have high CoP ratings.
There are a questions to ask yourself when choosing a supplier:1. Does the installer have a good reputation? Gibson has 20+ years in the business2. Will they be around for a while in case I need help? Yes!3. Will they give me an invoice to prove my purchase for warranty & insurance? Yes!4. Does the warranty I am getting includes parts and labour or just parts? If just parts then you will pay for labour for someone to come back and fix it. Yes, we do a 5 year installation warranty.5. How long is the warranty for the unit, and how good is the warranty for the installation? Usually between 5-6 years from the manufacturer.
A rating of 4 means we are putting in 1 unit of energy and getting 4 out. This is why a heat pump is so much more efficient than a heater which is usually 1-1.
